God has not given up on you. It doesn’t matter what you have done in your life or where you come from. God never wants you to ever feel so ashame that you don’t even feel comfortable praying or going to church. There is a reason why God gives us grace and mercy. The enemy wants to keep us looking at our failures and shortcomings and push us into a place of shame and defeat. Instead of abiding in his grace and mercy with our head lifted high looking at who Christ is and who he says in his word what we are. Dealing with shame condemnation and disappointment will keep us from rejoicing. We will overcome only because Christ overcame! I remember when I was a teenage girl in and out of church wanting to live for God and turn my back on the world. I had this long list of things I said I was gonna stop doing for God and to get right with God, but I never succeeded, I did good for a week or so but soon after that I slipped backed into the same ol bad habits. I was so discouraged and eventually I gave up on trying! I didn’t necessarily feel too ashamed to go to church but the disappointment of failing over and over again brought me to a place of discouragement which, then lead me to giving up completely. Shame has a similar effect, but instead of giving up it cause you to hide, to draw back from the presence of God, to sink in and cover up because you don’t feel worthy, you don’t feel good enough or spiritual enough but Hebrews says come boldly to the throne of grace that you may attain mercy. It’s dangerous for a believer to fall into condemnation when it is connected to shame. The enemy wants to trick all of us all. The scripture says he roams about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, he comes only to kill steal and destroy. I literally felt at times like it was Impossible to live for Christ, to live according to the bible. but I also felt like god wouldn’t ask us to do it if it was impossible for us to do it. Finally, after a few years I came back to God! but this time without a laundry list of things I needed to stop doing, I was broken and this time I just came desiring more of him, to get closer to him. That’s when it broke for me. he began to take away the desires, habits that was not like him and I begin to see real change in my life and I kept asking the lord! Why? Why couldn’t I make this change before? Why was it so hard? He made it very simple, because you can’t change yourself without me. I was tryna change myself without God and without his grace. You cant change without God. We don’t change ourselves, he changes us, he gives us the strength to stand, the patience to endure, and the encouragement to keep on going. Jesus says come! Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Cast all your cares on him for he cares for you. So encourage you to come, don’t worry about what you need to get right, what you did last night, just come, all we have is today, all we have is right my pastor always says “God’s not trippin on your yesterday”lol and we need to be reminded, Today is the day of salvation! don’t allow the enemy to trick you into believing God has giving up on you, it’s too late as long as you still have breath in your lungs you still have a chance so never feel too ashamed to go to church, Jesus Christ welcomes you.
